Vaca Muerta glossary

CPF (central processing facility)

The plant that receives production from many wells to separate oil, gas and water before shipping.

A CPF (central processing facility) is the main plant of a field. Production arrives by flowlines and is separated into oil, gas and water; oil is stabilized, gas is conditioned, and both leave through pipelines to trunk transport.

A CPF takes several hectares, has constant traffic and needs power, water and roads. Several Vaca Muerta operators have built their own in recent years.

Why it matters to landowners and companies

Service demand concentrates around a CPF: maintenance, transport, lodging. Being close shortens trips.
