Frequently asked questions about the Vaca Muerta map.
What SuperficiarIA is, where the cadastre, block and well data for Neuquén and Río Negro comes from, what is open and what is paid, and who handles the transaction when you want to buy, lease or sell.
To see it on the ground, open the Neuquén, Río Negro and Vaca Muerta map or request a parcel report.
The map is open. What we charge for is what we compute.
The map and the official layers
Parcels, concessions, wells, pipelines, roads and production, with the source and date next to each one. No account, no limit.
The account
With your email: save parcels, compare them, export the report and get the watchdog’s notices when something changes nearby. Free.
InteligencIA, with an approved account
What we compute on top of the official data: each parcel’s suitability by purpose, truck minutes, filters by operator and the full report. You request it from your account and the subscription is agreed with you.
When a project needs to go deeper on one parcel, there is a separate professional service: technical and legal due diligence, with fees in writing. If you want to buy, lease or sell, we walk you through the transaction with a licensed broker.
The twenty questions
What it is
What is SuperficiarIA?
A free map of Vaca Muerta, in Neuquén and Río Negro, with the layers the provinces and the national government publish (parcels, concessions, wells, pipelines, roads, production) and, on top, what we compute to decide about a parcel: suitability, truck minutes, which operators sit next door.
Why the name?
“Superficiario” is, in Argentine hydrocarbons law, whoever holds the land where someone else extracts. The name says where the basin is looked at from: the surface. The last two letters, IA, stand for the intelligence that crosses the data now spread across the Hydrocarbons office, COPADE, the Neuquén and Río Negro cadastres, the Energy Secretariat and IGN.
How much does it cost?
The map and the official layers, nothing, and no account needed. The email account, nothing either. InteligencIA, which is what we compute on top (suitability by purpose, truck minutes, filters, full report), is enabled with an approved account and a subscription agreed with you. Public data is never charged for.
How do you make money if it is free?
Through InteligencIA: what is paid for is the computed information, not the public data and not any deal. That is why the map is open: the more people use it, the better calibrated what we compute becomes.
Are you the province? Any link to the government?
No. SuperficiarIA is a private site by Grupo Ancestra SAS, a Neuquén company, with no link to the national government, the provinces of Neuquén and Río Negro or any public agency. We name them because that is where the data comes from, as their licences require. Naming the source does not mean the agency endorses us: it means it can be verified.
Do you cover all of Vaca Muerta?
Today, Neuquén, where most of the play sits, and Río Negro: its full parcel map, the wells in the national register and the municipal boundaries. Río Negro does not publish facilities, well pads or seismic, so those layers cover Neuquén only. Mendoza and La Pampa are surveyed and will switch on when they reach the same standard.
Who is behind it?
Grupo Ancestra SAS, a Neuquén company. Guillermo Sandoval runs it, from Neuquén. Write to hola@superficiaria.com.
The data
Where does the data come from, and how often is it updated?
From public agencies that publish it openly: the Cadastre and the Hydrocarbons Undersecretariat of Neuquén, COPADE, IDE Río Negro, IGN, the National Energy Secretariat, ENARGAS, CAMMESA, NASA FIRMS, INTA, INA, SMN, MapBiomas and OpenStreetMap, with the source and date next to every figure. The source data is official; gathering it, cleaning it and putting it on one map is our work, and that is not official. A watchdog compares every morning what each agency publishes with what we show, and flags any change.
Do you publish who owns a parcel?
Never. Owner, cadastral ID, files, valuation and address are neither published nor transferred: they belong to the superficiario, and only they decide who to tell. What you see is the geometry and area of each parcel, the concessions and operators, which are public data about the activity, and everything around it.
What does the AI seal mean?
That we computed that figure ourselves (suitability, minutes by road, operators within 10 km) and it did not come from an agency. Official data shows without the seal, with its source and date. They never get mixed up.
Is the report a legal opinion?
It is not a legal opinion, an appraisal or a title, and no professional signs it. It is an ordered reading of public data plus an estimate carrying the AI seal, to decide whether a parcel deserves the next step. It helps you understand the area; it is not enough to sign anything: you need a notary, a title report, a cadastral certificate and, where applicable, a title study. The agencies cited neither review nor endorse these reports.
What if a figure is wrong?
It happens: we load what each agency publishes and sometimes the source has errors or changes after our download. Every figure carries its agency and date so it can be checked, and the daily watchdog catches most changes on its own. If something looks off, write to hola@superficiaria.com with the parcel and the layer: we check it against the source and correct or flag it. The official figure always prevails over what the map shows.
Can I use the layers in my own system?
The original layers belong to the agencies that publish them, and every card links to the source. Our part is exported as a PDF report. If you need something else, write to us.
Before deciding
Are you a real estate agency? Who handles the transaction?
SuperficiarIA is an information platform about the land of Vaca Muerta: the map shows every parcel with its area and its surroundings, with no listings and no owner names. Our part starts when a parcel interests you: the purchase, lease or sale is handled by a licensed broker: Rocío Albaine, licensed broker, Reg. 279 Neuquén, who serves the client, signs and collects her fees under the Neuquén Board of Brokers schedule. In Río Negro it is handled by a broker licensed in that province. Grupo Ancestra SAS charges no commission.
I am a superficiario. What do I get?
Your parcel with everything around it: who operates next door and until when, which pipelines and roads run through, which easements apply and which works and concessions surround it. With an account, the watchdog tells you when something changes within 5 km. With InteligencIA, what your parcel is best suited for and how it compares with the rest of the corridor.
I am evaluating where to set up. Where do I start?
Open the map, filter the Añelo–Rincón corridor by road, gas and nearby operators, and scan the parcels that interest you. Save them with your account, compare them in a table and request the report for the ones that remain. If you need land near Argentina LNG, VMOS or the Punta Colorada Free Zone, look at the Allen–Sierra Grande / Punta Colorada corridor in Río Negro. The free zone (432 ha, tender announced on 1 October 2026) has no published boundary yet: the map shows the parcels around it, not the zone itself.
I am a foreigner. What limits apply to land in Neuquén?
Law 26.737 is still in force and requires a certificate from the National Registry of Rural Land before signing the deed. Neuquén fiscal land is not bought: it is allocated. That is a matter for a notary, not for the map.
What is the due diligence of a parcel?
A professional service separate from the platform: a technical and legal study of one specific parcel for one specific project, with scope and fees in writing before starting. You request it from your account.
Your account and your data
What is an account for?
To save parcels, compare them, export the report as PDF and filter by operator, expiry, window and distance. It is created with Google or with a link to your inbox, no password.
What do you do with my data?
The minimum. If you create an account we keep your email, your name if you leave it and what you looked up, to give you access and tell you about the updates you asked to follow. It is neither transferred nor sold to third parties (Argentine Law 25.326, arts. 5, 6 and 11). You can see, correct or delete your data from your account or by writing to hola@superficiaria.com; the supervisory authority is the Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública.
SuperficiarIA is a private site by Grupo Ancestra SAS (CUIT 33-71935529-9), with no link, sponsorship or endorsement from the national government, the provinces of Neuquén and Río Negro or the agencies whose public data it uses. Those agencies are named solely as the source of the data, as their licences require. Data is processed and shown as published; in case of any difference, the official figure prevails.
